  1. Installation Details

  3. This program requires that the Visual Basic 4.0 runtime files are installed on your computer. If you do not have them, go to: http://www.hotfiles.com/hlpframe.html 
  4. and download the Visual Basic 4.0 Win95 Runtime Drivers. Many shareware products need these files, and you only need to download them once.

  17. Delete  your existing "redhand" directory, if you have used RedHand before.
  18.  
  19. Extract all the files to an empty directory, and run the file "setup.exe".
  20. Follow the step by step instructions.

  23. 2. Run "redhand.exe".

  25. Run the file "redhand.exe", either from explorer or from the Start menu, where an icon will have been created.

  28. You will need a blank, formatted disk during the installation.

  30. 3. For a network machine (registered version only), put "strt32.exe" in the same directory as the "Redhand" executable, and start "strt32.exe" instead of RedHand.
  31. "strt32.exe" will start RedHand, get the users logged on name, and pass the information to RedHand.
  32. It will also protect RedHand from Ctrl-Alt-Del - see the program's documentation for details.

  34. Note: "strt32.exe" requires the Visual Basic 3.0 runtime file vbrun300.dll" to be in your windows\system directory.

  39. RedHand will have been placed in the Start menu by the setup program.
  40. You may like to remove this reference if you want to keep the program secret.

  44. Another place that RedHand's name will pop up is in the Add/Remove programs dialogue in control panel.

  46. To remove it, you will need to edit the registry:

  48. a) Start the registry editor.
  49.  
  50. b) Search the registry for "redhand". There are several references, but locate ONLY the key:
  51.  "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\ST4UNST....

  53. c) Delete the key "ST4UNST.." (The file will have a # number after it)

  55. The name will no longer appear in the "add/remove programs" list.
